ART Course – July 27 & 28, 2017 – Regina

Posted by admin On June - 1 - 2017Comments Off

Atraumatic restorative therapy (ART) is a procedure that utilizes adhesive restorative materials to provide interim restoration of decayed teeth. Hand instruments are often used to remove carious tooth tissue. No local anaesthesia or electrical instruments are required. ART delivers a provisional procedure for populations that do not have immediate access to full dental care. Dental hygienists placing temporary restorations must ensure that the client is aware of the temporary nature of the restorations and must advise clients to obtain further dental care from a dentist or dental therapist. Throughout this course dental hygienists will learn to provide ART through both lecture and hands-on clinical and laboratory experiences. Lectures include, but are not limited to, a review of anatomy, caries development and identification, indications and contraindications for ART, patient education, risk assessment, and referral. Clinical and laboratory sessions include pulp testing, use of hand instruments, and mixing and placing glass ionomer cement.
